Everyone knows that it takes forever to search for files on your hard drive. Well you may not have noticed it yet, but search is now much faster with Windows Vista.
If you go to your Start Menu on Windows Vista and search for a file, you’ll see that it appears right away. Try searching for “notepad” to see what I mean. So why is search faster with Windows Vista? The part of searching that takes so long on Windows XP and other operating systems is searching through the thousands of files on the hard drive, looking for the one you want. Windows Vista does this job ahead of time. Vista creates an index of these files, so that when you need something, Vista only needs to look at the index, instead of searching through your entire hard drive.
